A Chinese car company has announced its entry into the European market. Where it will establish a subsidiary, later this year?

Chinese automaker Changan will enter the European market by opening a subsidiary this year to assess the possibility of building a factory in Europe. The announcement was made by the local economic news portal Yicai, citing EFE agency and transmitted by Agerpres.

According to information from investor documents, Changan will launch its electric brands Deepal, Changan Qiyuan, and Avatr in Europe this year, with plans to introduce six models by 2027. Based in Chongqing, the company began a global strategy last year to expand its international business and build factories overseas.

In its European strategy, Changan will focus on electric vehicles. In Central and South America, the company will market combustion engine vehicles, targeting sales of around 200,000 units by 2030. Changan has designated Mexico as its operational base in this region, opening a sales branch in February.

These plans come shortly after the European Commission announced additional tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. This decision could prompt Chinese automakers to intensify efforts to build factories in Europe to avoid import duties on vehicles manufactured outside the EU.

Simultaneously, other Chinese automakers such as SAIC, BYD, and Chery have also announced similar plans to open factories in Europe. Leapmotor, for example, will utilize production capacities at Stellantis, which owns 51% of its international division.
