Romania’s DNSC will fund a cyber curriculum, through PNRR

Forumul Economic Regional Moldova 2024 – Vatra Dornei, 4–6 iulie

“Competencies in cybersecurity are important at the educational level, and together with the National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC), we are preparing the creation of a cyber curriculum with funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR),” said Eduard Mititelu, State Secretary in the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization (MCID) on Wednesday.

“First and foremost, we are fortunate to have competencies in the cybersecurity area. In Romania, as you know, we launched the European Center of Excellence in Cybersecurity on May 9th last year, which is expanding its activities and increasing its number of staff. In order to support them, we are expanding the resources that Romania allocates in terms of their headquarters, but also the technical resources because they will have a lot of work to do (…) In addition to European-level competencies, we also talk about the programs we have at the PNRR level. Together with DNSC, through investments from PNRR Component 7, we are preparing the creation of a cyber curriculum and everything related to educational competencies. In cybersecurity, besides competencies, good collaboration is also necessary. Together with my colleague and friend Dan Cîmpean, we have worked to support the efforts undertaken by the Republic of Moldova. On February 9th, they launched the National Cyber Security Agency, an equivalent of DNSC in the Republic of Moldova, with which we intend to collaborate closely. We tried to support them with the know-how we have in the legislative area,” said Mititelu at the “Cybersecurity Forum” event organized by the Financial Intelligence publication.

Romania is striving to become a European hub for involvement in cybersecurity.

“We are trying to bring these examples of good practice to the European level, and we are also getting involved in this area. We hope that the Belgian presidency will lead to the closure of other new files with an impact in the cybersecurity area, where we are trying to be a hub of involvement and results in this area, being recognized, I would say, at the European level, for the competencies we have (…) The Romanian Authority for Digitalization, the Special Telecommunications Service, and the Romanian Intelligence Service are implementing the Governmental Cloud, which will lead to much better cyber resilience. We will have four data centers, and we are talking about over 560 million euros for this investment, both in the investment area on Component 7 and in the application migration area,” emphasized Eduard Mititelu.
