Romania’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Cristian-Leon Țurcanu, reaffirmed Bucharest’s firm commitment to consistently supporting the modernization of Moldova’s National Army.
The statement was made during an official meeting with the Minister of Defence, Anatolie Nosatîi.
Strategic Cooperation in the Field of Defence
According to the ambassador’s statement, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of security and defence amid the evolving regional challenges. Ambassador Țurcanu, accompanied by Defence Attaché Colonel Ciprian Efimov and Deputy Defence Attaché Major Ionuț Chițu, congratulated Minister Nosatîi on the renewal of his mandate and expressed Romania’s full support for Moldova’s structural and institutional defence reforms.
“I assured the Minister of Romania’s sustained and consistent support for the efforts undertaken to strengthen the Republic of Moldova’s defence capabilities and to modernize its armed forces in line with European and Euro-Atlantic standards,” Ambassador Cristian-Leon Țurcanu stated.
Romania’s Steadfast Support
In recent years, Romania has become one of the Republic of Moldova’s key strategic partners in the defence sector, providing technical assistance, training programmes, and logistical support. Joint initiatives include officer training in Romanian military institutions, equipment donations, and participation in bilateral and multinational exercises aimed at enhancing interoperability with NATO structures.
This cooperation is part of Romania’s broader strategic approach to supporting Moldova’s institutional resilience and regional stability as the country advances on its European integration path.
The Strategic Dimension of the Bucharest–Chișinău Partnership
Romania’s continued support for the modernization of Moldova’s National Army represents a cornerstone of the bilateral strategic partnership. In the current geopolitical context, marked by heightened security risks in the Black Sea region, Bucharest’s engagement underscores its role as a pillar of stability on the European Union’s eastern flank.
Through consistent assistance and dialogue, Romania reaffirms its position as a reliable partner in Moldova’s institutional development and alignment with European and Euro-Atlantic defence standards.
