China creates 3.03 million new urban jobs in Q1

Last month, the national urban surveyed unemployment rate was recorded at 5.2 percent, indicating overall stability in the employment market, as reported by the ministry.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security announced on Tuesday that China successfully created 3.03 million new urban jobs in the first quarter of the year, meeting the corresponding target outlined in this year’s government work report.

The ministry reiterated that the national urban surveyed unemployment rate was at 5.2 percent last month, reflecting stability in the employment market.

Chen Feng, spokesperson for the ministry, outlined several proposals to enhance employment promotion mechanisms. These include expediting the development of a high-quality, full-employment work system, launching initiatives to bolster employment in advanced manufacturing, and accelerating the research and implementation of new unemployment insurance policies to assist enterprises in retaining jobs.

Chen further stated that the ministry aims to facilitate the employment of key groups, such as college graduates and other young individuals, by issuing supportive policies. Additionally, targeted support will be provided for graduates from low-income families, and community-level positions will be introduced in education, agriculture, health care, and poverty relief.

The ministry intends to enhance vocational skills training to meet talent demands in various sectors, including advanced manufacturing, modern services, and elderly care.

To improve employment services, the ministry plans to conduct more precise initiatives, such as specialized job fairs for private enterprises and online job recruitment.

As outlined in this year’s government work report, the main development targets for the year include creating over 12 million new urban jobs, with a surveyed urban unemployment rate of around 5.5 percent.
