Chisinau Accelerates Reintegration: Valeriu Chiveri, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of the Republic of Moldova, Proposes Romanian-Language Education, a Convergence Fund, and Energy Unification in Transnistria
Chisinau proposes that, starting from September 1, 2026, all schools teaching in the so-called “Moldovan language” with Cyrillic script in the Transnistrian region switch to teaching in Romanian. The announcement was made by the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Valeriu Chiveri, during a meeting with the representative from Tiraspol, Vitali Ignatiev.
According to the official from Chisinau, the initiative has no political connotations but aims to provide students with access to quality education in their mother tongue, aligned with national standards.
Possible Expansion of the 112 Service in the Eastern Districts
Constitutional authorities are also analyzing the expansion of the 112 Service across the entire territory of the Republic of Moldova, including the districts on the left bank of the Dniester. In this regard, pilot projects could be launched in cities such as Bender, Dubasari, and Rîbnița, where the system already operates unofficially in certain areas.
The measure is seen as a practical step toward bringing public services closer to citizens and standardizing response procedures at the national level.
Reform in the Energy Sector and System Unification
During the discussions, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that the current mechanism for delivering natural gas to the region, carried out through banks in Hungary and the United Arab Emirates at Russia’s initiative, does not represent a sustainable long-term solution.
He emphasized the need to identify a new supply model, which could create the premises for unifying the country’s energy system and strengthening energy security.
Creation of a Convergence Fund for Integration
Another central element of the reintegration process is the establishment of a convergence fund, whose legal framework is to be developed by mid-March. The funds are intended to be allocated to social and infrastructure projects on the left bank of the Dniester.
The purpose of this mechanism is to accelerate economic and institutional integration between the two banks, reduce disparities, and facilitate the connection of the region to the common legal, economic, financial, social, and educational spaces of the Republic of Moldova.
A Reintegration Process with Clear Objectives
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that reintegration must take place within a well-defined framework, with clear objectives and concrete stages. The ultimate goal is the full integration of the Transnistrian region into the common state systems, through pragmatic and coordinated measures that strengthen the country’s unity and functionality.
