$250 Million Investment for the New U.S. Embassy and a Public Park in Moldova

In today’s plenary session, deputies ratified the agreement with the United States Government for the acquisition of a plot of land at 12 Tighina Street in Chișinău, where both the new U.S. Embassy and a public park will be constructed

The plot, covering approximately 5.2 hectares, will be transformed into a modern diplomatic campus, with total investments estimated at around $250 million.

This project includes the revitalization of the former Republican Stadium, which has been unused for 17 years. The plan involves restoring the historic gates of the stadium, installing public art installations, and creating a new park for public use.

The purchase price for the property, in accordance with the provisions of the Law on the Transfer of Real Estate for Consideration, is 18 million euros. This amount will be allocated by the Moldovan authorities for important infrastructure projects, including the renovation of sports schools, the design of a new national stadium, and the establishment of the “Universul” Center for Contemporary Culture and Art. Additionally, the U.S. will reimburse up to 7.5 million euros for the land transfer expenses, including any costs related to expropriation and clearing the land of existing structures.

The agreement between the Government of Moldova and the U.S. Government was signed for a period of one year, with the possibility of annual extensions, but no more than five times. This marks a significant step in the development of diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries and will contribute substantially to the urban revitalization of the Moldovan capital.
