Cristina Gherasimov at the EU General Affairs Council: Moldova remains firmly committed to continuing reforms and advancing on its European path
The Republic of Moldova remains firmly committed to continuing reforms and advancing on its European integration path, said Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov at the informal meeting of the EU General Affairs Council, held at the invitation of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU in Nicosia.
During the discussions, ministers for European affairs from the 27 EU member states and candidate countries addressed the importance of EU enlargement in the current geopolitical context, as well as the role of rule-of-law reforms in strengthening European security, resilience, and unity.
“For the Republic of Moldova, these reforms mean stronger institutions, greater trust from citizens, and a society capable of facing external challenges. In recent years, our country has climbed important positions in international rankings monitoring key areas such as anti-corruption efforts, press freedom, and the strengthening of democratic institutions,” said Cristina Gherasimov.
The official also emphasized that these progress results were made possible through domestic reforms and civic engagement.
The Republic of Moldova was granted EU candidate status in June 2022, and Moldovan authorities have in recent years accelerated the process of aligning legislation and implementing reforms required by Brussels.
