Maia Sandu: Children in secondary school classes from Moldova will benefit from free meals in schools

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, announced today the launch of a free school meals program for students in secondary school classes (grades V-IX), a measure that will be implemented starting September 1, 2025. This initiative marks a significant step for the health and well-being of children and is part of the authorities’ commitment to providing better conditions in schools.

“Just as we promised last fall, starting September 1, children in secondary school classes will benefit from free meals in schools. The government has allocated the first 80 million lei to support this initiative – an important investment for healthier children who are better prepared for the future,” stated President Maia Sandu.

The government’s decision underscores a strong commitment to improving access to quality education and creating an equitable school environment for all students.
