Republic of Moldova, the second most appreciated wine tourism destination, surpassing Italy, Spain, and France

The National Office of Viticulture and Wine (ONVV) announced today that the Republic of Moldova has ranked second in the top destinations most appreciated for wine tourism, according to a study conducted by the international platform Bounce. Our country has surpassed nations with a long-standing tradition in this field, such as Italy, Spain, and France.

The ranking was established based on factors such as wine consumption and production, vineyard area, and the number of organized tours, thus highlighting the diversity and richness of the Republic of Moldova’s viticultural heritage.

“This achievement is not only a recognition of the quality of our wines but also evidence of the tourism potential that our country possesses. With a score of 8.16 points, the Republic of Moldova is on the podium alongside Portugal, which scored 8.83 points, and Italy, with 7.86 points. The pride of occupying this position on the world stage reflects the continuous efforts of Moldovan viticulturists and wine producers, who have tirelessly worked to create products of excellence,” estimates ONVV.

The main national event, which annually attracts tens of thousands of visitors and tourists, is the National Wine Day, traditionally organized on the first weekend of October. The Wine Festival of Moldova, officially later named “National Wine Day,” held its first edition in 2002. Traditionally, the event takes place in the Great National Assembly Square in Chișinău and at various wineries across the country, during the first weekend of October, immediately after grape harvesting. The festival celebrates Moldova’s rich viticultural traditions, which have roots dating back to the 15th century. The main objectives of the event include promoting and consolidating Moldova’s image as an important viticultural state, supporting the development of the sector, promoting knowledge of wine products, facilitating Moldova’s integration into international wine tourism routes, attracting investors and tourists, increasing domestic consumption of high-quality wines, as well as promoting local customs, culture, and traditions.
