Moldova to receive additional funding from the United States

The Republic of Moldova will receive additional funding from the United States to support sustainable economic growth and strengthen participatory democracy

The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration has approved the initiation of negotiations to amend two existing assistance agreements, according to a statement by the MOLDPRES agency.

The amendment to the Agreement for Strengthening Participatory Democracy will provide an additional grant of $12,232,777, raising the total funds allocated under this agreement to $134,632,542. These funds will be directed towards promoting active civic culture, collaborating with independent media organizations, and improving local public administration services.

Regarding the Agreement for Sustainable Economic Growth Anchored in European Integration, the proposed amendment will allocate an additional $26,011,426. Consequently, the total amount allocated through this agreement will reach $432,402,507. The funds will be used to strengthen trade, increase the competitiveness of Moldovan products on the market, and enhance energy security by diversifying energy sources and reinforcing the independence of energy infrastructure.

These assistance agreements were initially signed between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the United States on September 28, 2016.
