Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated on Friday, October 4, during a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu, that “the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and Romania represents a guarantee for our country’s European integration.”
The Moldovan Prime Minister spoke about joint projects with Romania aimed at connecting the Republic of Moldova to European infrastructure and accelerating the country’s European integration process. “Nearly two years ago, during a joint press conference in Bucharest, we first announced the plan to build roads connecting both banks of the Prut River and to link our road network to Romania’s highways, both existing and under construction. Last week, in Ungheni, the contract was signed for the construction of the bridge over the Prut River, which will connect Ungheni in Romania with Ungheni in the Republic of Moldova—a symbol of the growing ties between us,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean after the meeting with his Romanian counterpart Marcel Ciolacu.
Dorin Recean noted that this bridge should be completed by 2026. “A new bridge with four lanes that, both literally and figuratively, will bring us closer to Romania and the European Union. This project will not only stabilize transport and trade between our countries but, as you emphasized earlier today, Mr. Prime Minister, it will open the way for more investment directions in the Republic of Moldova. The connection will directly link us to highways through Bucharest to Thessaloniki, Budapest, Vienna, and Paris. This is how we will reach our goals faster, not only through the integration of national policies but also with the help of new roads,” the Chisinau government leader estimated.
According to the official, deepening the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and Romania in economic, trade, and infrastructure sectors guarantees the acceleration of our European Union accession process.
“Economic and trade exchanges between our countries have steadily increased, and Romania represents the largest and most stable market for Moldovan exports. Attracting foreign investments in various sectors, from energy to agriculture and technology, contributes to the modernization of Moldova’s economy and accelerates our integration into the European common market. Romania remains one of our most important allies on this path, and we are pleased to see how our economic and trade ties continue to strengthen, bringing real benefits to the citizens of both countries,” highlighted Dorin Recean.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean and his Romanian counterpart Marcel Ciolacu participated in a ceremony for handing over school minibuses donated to the Republic of Moldova by the Romanian government.
