Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi: Romania strengthens the European path and economic development of the Republic of Moldova

Annual Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy | Mihai Popșoi: The Republic of Moldova is closer than ever to the EU, also thanks to Romania’s support

The Republic of Moldova is now closer than ever to the European Union, and its European path has been consistently supported by Romania, stated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, in a message addressed to participants in the 2026 Annual Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy (RADR).

Romania, a factor of stability in the region

In his message, Mihai Popșoi highlighted the important role played by Romanian diplomacy in a European and regional context marked by complex challenges. According to him, Romania has established itself as a factor of stability, balance and confidence, managing to turn its solidarity with the Republic of Moldova into a concrete foreign policy.

The Moldovan Foreign Minister stressed that Romania’s support extends beyond the bilateral relationship and contributes to the stability of the entire region.

A European future built together

Mihai Popșoi spoke about the deep ties between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing that the two countries are united by their language, shared memory, traditions and a common vision for their European future.

He pointed out that, while the Prut River represents a geographical border, the ties between the two banks have been continuously strengthened through cooperation and by the shared objective of becoming part of a free, democratic and prosperous Europe.

Romania’s support translated into concrete projects

According to the Moldovan minister, Bucharest’s support has gone beyond political statements and has been reflected in projects and investments with a direct impact on citizens.

In this context, Mihai Popșoi referred to the construction and modernization of bridges, the development of road infrastructure, energy interconnections, investments, the renovation of schools and kindergartens, scholarships for young people and programmes dedicated to future generations.

These projects, the official emphasized, represent the concrete expression of the growing ties between the two countries and contribute to strengthening relations between communities on both banks of the Prut River.

Romania stands by the Republic of Moldova in difficult times

The head of Moldovan diplomacy expressed his appreciation for the support provided by Romania during the difficult periods faced by the Republic of Moldova, describing this as one of the most valuable forms of diplomacy.

In his view, effective foreign policy is one that delivers concrete results for people, creates opportunities and provides society with confidence and a clear perspective for the future.

Romanian diplomacy and support for the European path

Mihai Popșoi expressed his appreciation for Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu, as well as for the Romanian diplomatic corps involved in promoting relations between the two countries and supporting the Republic of Moldova’s European path.

He noted that, through their work, Romanian diplomats contribute not only to promoting Bucharest’s interests, but also to strengthening European support for the Republic of Moldova.

The Republic of Moldova, closer than ever to the European Union

One of the key messages conveyed by Mihai Popșoi at RADR 2026 concerned the Republic of Moldova’s progress towards European integration.

“Today, the Republic of Moldova is closer than ever to the European Union”, the official stated, emphasizing that this progress is also due to Romania’s confidence in the country’s European path and its consistent support, including at times when there were doubts about the Republic of Moldova’s ability to advance along this course.

According to Popșoi, Romania’s support has made, and continues to make, a significant difference in the Republic of Moldova’s European journey.

A shared responsibility for the future

At the end of his message, the Moldovan minister emphasized the shared responsibility of Romania and the Republic of Moldova to contribute to building a more united, safer and more prosperous Europe for future generations.

His message also carried a strong symbolic dimension, evoking the close ties between the two banks of the Prut River and the idea that, at a decisive moment in the region’s history, Romania and the Republic of Moldova are choosing to build their European future together.
