DRRM Invests in Romanian Education in Northern Moldova: „Regele Ferdinand I” Conference Hall at USARB Opens

On October 22, the Alecu Russo State University of Bălți (USARB) inaugurated a major project funded by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova (DRRM): the „Regele Ferdinand I” Conference Hall, a fully renovated and equipped space dedicated to academic, scientific, and civic activities.

This investment is part of DRRM’s broader program to strengthen Romanian educational and cultural infrastructure in Moldova, with a focus on the northern regions where access to modern educational facilities has been limited.

Project Objectives

The conference hall has been completely renovated and equipped with modern technology, creating an optimal environment for conferences, seminars, workshops, and civic events.

DRRM stated that the project aims to:

  • Improve the quality of the educational process by providing modern learning and communication facilities;

  • Increase USARB’s attractiveness for students, professors, and researchers from Moldova and Romania;

  • Strengthen Romanian cultural identity by supporting educational initiatives that promote Romanian language and values in northern Moldova.

Official Participation and Cooperation

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Constantin-Valentin Răducanu, Director General with duties of State Secretary at DRRM, USARB Rector Natalia Gașițoi, faculty members, students, and representatives of the university library.

During the visit, the delegation also toured the Interdisciplinary Educational and Information Center, another DRRM-funded project dedicated to preserving and promoting the Romanian linguistic and cultural identity. This center functions as a multifunctional educational space for research, training, and cultural activities, contributing to human and intellectual capital development in the region.

Economic and Strategic Impact

According to DRRM representatives, cooperation with USARB has resulted in several infrastructure projects and significant educational events in recent years.

“Through these investments, we support academic excellence and provide young people in northern Moldova with access to facilities comparable to Romanian universities. Our goal is to strengthen both the quality of education and the Romanian cultural identity in the region,” stated Constantin-Valentin Răducanu.

These investments are not only financial but also a tool of public policy, through which Romania contributes to the sustainable development of the academic environment and to the strengthening of cultural and educational ties between the two countries.

Future Perspective

By completing and equipping the conference hall, USARB consolidates its position as a leading academic institution in northern Moldova, offering students and faculty modern resources for educational and research activities.

These initiatives reaffirm Romania’s commitment to quality education and the preservation of Romanian identity in Moldova, fostering a competitive academic environment and developing the human capital necessary for regional progress.
