Educational Exchanges between Romania and Ukraine Expand through a Cultural Programme for Romanian Students from Zakarpattia
An Educational Opportunity for Romanian Students from Ukraine
A group of Romanian students from the Romanian-language “Ac. Vasile Marina” High School in Middle Apşa, Zakarpattia Region, Ukraine, are taking part, from 21–25 September, in a cultural and educational trip organized in the municipality of Săcele and the municipality of Brașov, Brașov County.
The students are accompanied by two teachers, and the activity provides them with an opportunity to come into direct contact with places, institutions and landmarks of particular importance to Romanian culture and history.
Cooperation Between Romanian Authorities and Institutions
The programme is organized at the invitation of the Săcele City Hall, with the support of the Slatina (Solotvino) City Hall and the Consulate of Romania in Slatina.
The initiative is part of a broader series of activities aimed at strengthening ties between Romanian communities on both sides of the border. Through such projects, young people from Romanian communities in Ukraine have the opportunity to interact directly with institutions and communities in Romania and to discover important elements of Romanian cultural heritage.
Promoting Romanian History and Cultural Heritage
The trip has an important cultural and educational component, aiming to provide students with an opportunity to learn more about Romanian history, culture, traditions and customs.
The programme is coordinated by Professor Liviu-Nicolae Dârjan, Honorary Adviser to the ASTRA Association – “Frații Popeea” Branch. Throughout the visit, students take part in activities designed to complement the knowledge acquired at school through first-hand experiences and visits to cultural landmarks.
Cultural and Educational Landmarks in Săcele
In the municipality of Săcele, the programme includes visits to several landmarks of cultural and educational importance. These include the Municipal Library, as well as the bust of poet Mihai Eminescu and the “Professor Nicolae Colceag” Memorial House.
These landmarks give students the opportunity to learn about personalities, institutions and cultural references associated with Romanian communities and to better understand their role in preserving and passing on cultural heritage.
Discovering Brașov’s Historical Heritage
The programme continues with visits to important landmarks in the municipality of Brașov. In the Șcheii Brașovului district, the students will visit the First Romanian School Museum and the “Saint Nicholas” Church, two landmarks representative of the history of education and the Romanian community in the area.
The trip will conclude with a cultural tour of Brașov’s historic city centre, giving participants the opportunity to discover the city’s architectural and historical heritage and to deepen the information presented throughout the programme.
Strengthening Ties Between Romanian Communities
Such cultural and educational exchanges contribute to strengthening relations between Romanians in Ukraine and communities in Romania. For Romanian students from Zakarpattia, participation in such activities provides an opportunity to discover first-hand places, personalities and traditions that form part of Romania’s cultural heritage.
At the same time, direct interaction with institutions and communities in Romania can contribute to strengthening linguistic and cultural identity and to developing new connections between young Romanians on both sides of the border.
Support for Continuing Educational Projects
The organizers express their gratitude to all the individuals and institutions involved in carrying out the programme and in ensuring the necessary conditions for the students’ participation.
The Slatina (Solotvino) City Hall and the Săcele City Hall play an important role in organizing this activity, with their support contributing to the development of cultural and educational exchanges and to strengthening cooperation between Romanian communities in Romania and Ukraine.
