Emil Ceban to return as rector of Nicolae Testemițanu University of Medicine and Pharmacy after ending his term as Health Minister

Emil Ceban will return to the position of rector of the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy after the end of his term as Minister of Health, amid the changes made to the Government led by Vasile Tofan

The confirmation was provided by Ceban to AGORA after the designated Prime Minister announced that the current Health Minister would resume his academic activity.

“The position of rector of the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy was suspended for the period during which I served as Minister of Health. Thus, upon the termination of my mandate as acting minister, the position of rector will be resumed, with the continuation of my activity, in accordance with the provisions of the legislation in force,” Emil Ceban said.

His return to the leadership of the medical university comes amid the reshuffle of the Government led by Vasile Tofan. Emil Ceban is one of the four ministers whose candidacies were changed in the new government formula.

Tofan: Ceban will remain part of the broader team

Earlier, designated Prime Minister Vasile Tofan announced that Emil Ceban would resume his position as rector of the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, stressing that he would remain involved in the development of the healthcare system.

“Together with Minister Emil Ceban, we decided on this format. He will return as rector of the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy. He very much wants to continue in this role and will remain part of the broader team,” Vasile Tofan said.

According to the designated Prime Minister, Ceban’s return to academia does not represent a departure from the healthcare system, but rather a continuation of his work in a position of strategic importance for the training of specialists and the development of medicine.

As his term as Minister of Health comes to an end, Emil Ceban officially announced his departure from office. The official said he was ending his mandate with the feeling that he had fulfilled his responsibilities in good faith, with public health as his priority.

“I remain part of the healthcare system and will continue to contribute to its development from the academic environment,” Emil Ceban said.

His return to the leadership of the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy once again highlights the role of academic institutions in the development of the healthcare system and in training future generations of doctors and specialists.

Alexandru Gasnaș proposed to lead the Ministry of Health

Under the new government configuration, the Health Ministry portfolio is expected to be taken over by Alexandru Gasnaș, who has been indicated as Emil Ceban’s successor.

The change at the helm of the ministry comes at an important moment for the healthcare system of the Republic of Moldova, which is undergoing a process of modernization and reform. In this context, Emil Ceban will continue contributing to the development of the sector from the academic perspective, as rector of one of the country’s most important medical education institutions.
