Estonia allocates 748,000 euros to strengthen institutional resilience and advance digitalization in the Republic of Moldova
In Chișinău, a new round of interministerial consultations took place between Republic of Moldova and Estonia. The Moldovan delegation was led by Carolina Perebinos, while the Estonian side was led by Martin Roger.
The discussions focused on the development of political dialogue and the assessment of sectoral cooperation.
Emphasis on digitalization and sectoral cooperation
Officials analyzed progress in areas such as agriculture, education, and public services, with a particular focus on digitalization. Both sides highlighted the need to expand cooperation in these areas of common interest.
Support for Moldova’s European path
A central point of the meeting was the European integration of the Republic of Moldova. Carolina Perebinos presented recent developments, including the launch of technical negotiations for all six clusters of accession chapters to the European Union. Estonia reaffirmed its political and technical support for this process.
Financial assistance and development projects
Estonia is providing a new support package worth 748 thousand euros, aimed at strategic communication, digitalization, and resilience building. The Moldovan side appreciated the contribution of Estonian institutions such as ESTDEV and the e-Governance Academy, which have had a positive impact on institutional and security capacities.
Expansion of bilateral relations
The opening of the Embassy of Estonia in Chișinău, planned for this year, is seen as an important step in deepening bilateral relations. It will facilitate cooperation in areas such as defense, trade, and the reforms necessary for European integration.
Multilateral cooperation and regional security
The discussions also included cooperation within international organizations, such as the Council of Europe, including Estonia’s participation in the ministerial session to be held in Chișinău. Issues related to the Transnistrian conflict and efforts toward the reintegration of the country were also addressed.
