Estonia will open an embassy in Chișinău, strengthening bilateral cooperation and support for reforms in the Republic of Moldova
Estonia will open an embassy in Chișinău in the second half of this year, a significant step toward deepening bilateral relations with the Republic of Moldova.
With this decision, all three Baltic states — Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania — will have permanent diplomatic representations in the Republic of Moldova.
Official announcement during the visit of Baltic leaders
The decision was announced on February 2 during a joint press conference held on the occasion of the visit to Chișinău by the speakers of the parliaments of the Baltic states. The event took place at the invitation of the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu. Official confirmation was provided by the Speaker of the Riigikogu, Lauri Hussar.
A clear signal of support for the European path
Lauri Hussar stated that the opening of the embassy represents a firm message of support for the Republic of Moldova and its European aspirations. According to him, the initiative reflects Estonia’s strong commitment to the country’s European integration process and its desire to strengthen political and institutional cooperation.
Strategic partnership in the field of digitalization
The Estonian official highlighted Estonia’s key role as the Republic of Moldova’s main partner in the digitalization of public services. Estonia’s experience contributes to the modernization of public administration, increased institutional efficiency, and enhanced governmental transparency.
Encouraging reforms and European integration
The Speaker of the Riigikogu praised the progress made by Moldovan authorities in the field of reforms and encouraged their continuation. He noted that digitalization facilitates both good governance and the negotiation process within the framework of accession to the European Union.
A symbolic and practical step toward a European future
The opening of Estonia’s embassy in Chișinău is seen as both a symbolic and a practical gesture, strengthening the political and technical support offered by the Baltic states. This initiative fits into a broader context of consolidating the European diplomatic presence in the Republic of Moldova and confirms firm support for its European path.
