EU Ambassador in Chisinau, Iwona Piórko, in the Context of the EU Enlargement Forum: “Youth Represents Both the Present and the Future of Europe”

The Republic of Moldova continues to strengthen its European trajectory, with youth involvement emerging as a strategic driver in the integration process.

EU Ambassador to Chisinau, Iwona Piórko, emphasized during an event organized as a satellite activity of the EU Enlargement Forum that Moldovan youth represents not only the future of Europe but also its present.

The event gathered over 100 young members of Euroclubs from across the country, providing a platform for idea exchange, dialogue, and the promotion of European values. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, highlighted the critical role of this generation, stating that young people are “a strong voice in society and the most important ambassadors of European values.”

“I met with over 100 young people and shared our achievements on the European agenda, as well as the next steps we will take. I encouraged them to continue working together with society as a whole to promote European values in every community,” said Cristina Gherasimov.

Ambassador Piórko noted Moldova’s significant progress toward European integration, achieved through structural reforms, open dialogue, and active civil society involvement. “The period of change and progress we are experiencing is a moment of courage, unity, and trust in Moldova’s European future. The European Union stands firmly alongside the Republic of Moldova on this journey,” she stressed.

The ambassador also highlighted EU programs for youth, including Erasmus+, EU4Youth, internships, training, and exchanges, designed to support professional development and prepare young leaders for active roles in their communities.

The EU Enlargement Forum, scheduled in Brussels on 18 November, is a European Commission initiative aimed at consolidating enlargement as both a political and societal project, engaging the younger generation. The event will be hosted by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, emphasizing the importance of youth participation in building a united and prosperous Europe.

Through these initiatives, the Republic of Moldova reaffirms its commitment to European integration, with young people serving as a key driver of economic and social progress and the promotion of European values in every community.
