EUR 43.8 Million Investment to Expand the Drinking Water Network in Seven Localities of Soroca District

More than 4,300 residents of the villages of Racovăț, Slobozia-Vărăncău and Slobozia-Cremene, Soroca District, now have access to drinking water from the Dniester River following the completion of new water supply systems.

The newly constructed networks extend for more than 42.6 kilometers, and the works were officially accepted by representatives of the North Regional Development Agency, central and local public authorities, and the institutions involved in the implementation of the project.

Investments in Water Infrastructure in Racovăț Village

In Racovăț, more than 24.2 kilometers of water supply networks were built across three sectors of the village. The project also included the construction of a chlorination station, the installation of six underground fire hydrants, and the restoration of infrastructure affected by the construction works, including the rehabilitation of 500 meters of asphalt road and 3,250 meters of gravel road.

The new infrastructure serves nearly 2,000 residents, with a total investment of 10.5 million lei. Of this amount, 9.5 million lei was financed through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, while more than 1 million lei was provided by the local authorities.

Expansion of the Water Network in Vărăncău Commune

In Vărăncău Commune, the investments targeted the villages of Slobozia-Vărăncău and Slobozia-Cremene. In Slobozia-Vărăncău, 13.43 kilometers of new water pipelines were built, along with a sodium hypochlorite disinfection station, the electrical infrastructure required to operate the system, three underground fire hydrants, and additional site improvement works.

In Slobozia-Cremene, nearly 5 kilometers of new water pipelines were installed. These investments have connected approximately 2,366 residents from the two villages to the drinking water supply system.

The value of the works carried out in the two localities amounts to 7.3 million lei, of which 6.5 million lei was financed through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, while more than 726,000 lei was covered by the budgets of the local public authorities.

Part of a Major Regional Development Project

The works are part of the project “Construction of Water Supply Systems in Seven Localities of Soroca District”, with a total value of 43.8 million lei. The project is financed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, co-financed by the local authorities, and implemented by the North Regional Development Agency.

Continuing the Expansion of Water Infrastructure in Northern Moldova

These investments are part of a broader program aimed at expanding access to drinking water across northern Moldova. During the previous phase, water supply networks were built in Alexandru cel Bun, as well as in the villages of Vasilcău, Inundeni and Ruslanovca, providing access to drinking water for more than 3,000 residents.

The current works build on investments carried out during 2022–2023, when a 30.5-kilometer main water pipeline connected to the regional Soroca–Bălți system was constructed. This infrastructure has created the conditions necessary to extend the supply of drinking water from the Dniester River to an increasing number of localities across Soroca District.
