The European Union is supporting small towns in the Republic of Moldova to enhance the resilience and efficiency of municipal services in emergencies, with a total investment of approximately 6.5 million lei.
The project “EU4Moldova Resilient: Safe State, Strong Communities”, implemented by Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova, has already provided modern equipment worth nearly 2 million lei to municipal enterprises in Drochia, Iargara, Sângerei, Criuleni, Strășeni, and Cantemir.
Each municipality received a full set of equipment, including dump trailers, wood chippers, and water pumps. These tools are essential for rapid response to storms, heavy snowfall, floods, fallen trees, or infrastructure damage, directly contributing to the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
Strengthening response and prevention capacity
The equipment was complemented by specialized training for municipal staff, enabling them to act not only in damage mitigation but also in prevention. “We are confident that these tools will strengthen the towns’ resilience and enhance their crisis response capacity,” said Tomasz Horbowski, Director of Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova.
Marcia Kammitsi, Program Manager at the EU Delegation to Moldova, emphasized the importance of the investment: “Our support focuses on people and their safety. Through such projects, small towns can better respond to climate challenges and protect lives and property.”
Expanding resources for the winter season
By the end of the year, six additional municipal enterprises will receive medium-capacity tractors (50–90 HP), essential for rapid intervention during winter, ensuring continuity of services in harsh conditions.
The 12 towns included in the project were selected following a public grant call launched in March by Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova. The total value of the equipment delivered through “EU4Moldova Resilient” demonstrates the European Union’s commitment to sustainable development and community safety, enhancing local capacity to manage emergencies efficiently.
