Romania continues to be the largest investor in the economy of the Republic of Moldova, with investments exceeding 300 million euros through Romanian companies.
The statement was made by His Excellency Victor Chirilă, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Bucharest, during the public debate “Economic Cooperation Sets the Tone for General Moldovan-Romanian Integration,” organized by IPN News Agency.
According to the ambassador, Romanian investments contribute significantly to the development of Moldova’s economy, and cooperation between the business communities of the two countries is continuously strengthening. “Economic relations between Chișinău and Bucharest are characterized by a bilateral contribution, not just a one-way investment flow. Romania is the largest investor in Moldova’s economy. At the same time, Moldovan companies have invested a significant amount in Romania’s economy – over 50 million euros according to our data, and over 80 million euros according to the Romanian ambassador, Cristian-Leon Țurcanu. This shows a mutual contribution to our shared development,” explained H.E. Victor Chirilă.
Bilateral trade and growing imports
Although Moldova’s exports to Romania slightly declined last year, Romania remains Chișinău’s main trading partner. The ambassador noted that imports from Romania are increasing, including electricity and natural gas. The total value of bilateral trade exceeds 3 billion euros, even more if trade with the Transnistrian region is included. “Official figures usually do not account for trade conducted by the Transnistrian region with Romania,” the diplomat added.
Moldovan products increasingly visible in Romania
H.E. Victor Chirilă also emphasized the growing presence of Moldovan products on the Romanian market, supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Bucharest. “In recent years, more Moldovan companies have entered the Romanian market, opened offices, and their products are now present in major retail chains. Many of them were assisted by the Embassy. This concerns especially fruit, wine, and food industry producers. Moldovan producers’ interest in the Romanian market continues to grow,” said the ambassador.
