Investment in Education and Integration: 44 Schools in the Republic of Moldova to Implement the National Multilingual Education Programme
44 Schools to Implement the National Multilingual Education Programme
During the 2026–2027 academic year, 44 educational institutions providing instruction in the languages of national minorities will implement the National Multilingual Education Programme. The initiative aims to develop students’ communication skills in both Romanian and their mother tongue, including by studying certain school subjects in both languages.
Priorities: Qualified Teachers and Adapted Educational Resources
The programme will focus on the professional training and development of teaching staff, the development and use of adapted educational resources, as well as monitoring students’ progress and learning outcomes. The objective is to create an educational framework that effectively supports the multilingual learning process.
Workshop Held in Comrat
Preparations for the new academic year were discussed during a workshop organised by the Ministry of Education and Research in Comrat. The event brought together school managers from institutions involved in piloting the National Multilingual Education Programme, representatives of local authorities responsible for education, teachers and experts.
Assessing Schools’ Readiness for the New Stage
Participants assessed the level of institutional preparedness and the measures required to ensure that Multilingual Education is implemented effectively and sustainably during the 2026–2027 academic year. Discussions addressed both pedagogical aspects and the conditions necessary for a coherent implementation at the level of each school.
Conditions Required for Effective Implementation
According to Iulia Belanciuc, Senior Consultant within the Interethnic Relations Policy Service, the programme’s success depends on the timely preparation of teaching staff, the availability of adapted educational materials, the creation of a supportive linguistic environment, and the involvement of parents and the community. Appropriate planning can help make full use of existing resources and encourage the active involvement of all stakeholders in the educational process.
Schools Call for Additional Tools and Resources
School managers highlighted the need for teachers to continue having access to lesson models, terminology glossaries, teaching materials, digital resources, and formative and summative assessment tools. These resources are considered essential for the practical and effective implementation of the programme.
Gradual Implementation Based on Each Institution’s Capacity
School representatives emphasised that Multilingual Education should be introduced gradually and adapted to the specific characteristics of each institution. The pace of implementation should take into account the availability of qualified teaching staff, existing resources, the school’s capacity, as well as the support provided by school administrations and parents.
