Japan Invests in Local Infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova: Nearly $98,000 for the Modernization of the Wastewater Treatment System in Andrușul de Jos, Cahul District
The Government of Japan continues to support the development of local communities in the Republic of Moldova through investments aimed at infrastructure improvement and better living conditions
The latest project funded under the “Kusanone” Grant Assistance for Human Security Projects Program focuses on the modernization of the wastewater treatment system in the village of Andrușul de Jos, with an investment of nearly 98,000 US dollars.
The official inauguration ceremony took place on May 7, in the presence of the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova, Takeuchi Kazuyuki, representatives of local public authorities, and members of the community.
Investment in Essential Infrastructure and Public Health
According to information provided by the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Moldova, the non-reimbursable grant amounting to 97,807 US dollars was used for the installation of three modern wastewater treatment systems in the locality.
The project has a strong social and sanitary impact component, primarily targeting educational institutions and community infrastructure. The implementation of the modern systems contributes to improving hygiene conditions, reducing sanitary risks, and protecting the environment.
In his speech, Ambassador Takeuchi Kazuyuki emphasized the importance of investments in basic infrastructure for the sustainable development of rural communities.
“Thanks to this project, children attending kindergarten and schools now benefit from safe and comfortable indoor sanitary conditions. At the same time, more efficient wastewater management will contribute to maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment for the entire community,” the Japanese diplomat stated.
Economic and Social Benefits for the Community
Beyond its immediate impact on living conditions, the project also carries an important economic dimension. Modernizing water and sanitation infrastructure is essential for sustainable local development, increasing the attractiveness of communities for investments, and reducing costs associated with public health issues and environmental pollution.
Investments in sanitary infrastructure also contribute to raising living standards in rural areas and bringing local public services closer to European standards regarding environmental protection and community health.
The event was also attended by the President of Cahul District, Pavel Groza, as well as the Mayor of Andrușul de Jos, Constantin Leonte.
The “Kusanone” Program, an Important Instrument of Japanese-Moldovan Cooperation
The “Kusanone” Grant Assistance for Human Security Projects Program is one of the main instruments through which Japan supports small-scale community projects in the Republic of Moldova. Launched in 2008, the program finances initiatives focused on healthcare, education, local infrastructure, and public services.
According to data presented by the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Moldova, to date, the Government of Japan has provided approximately 8 million US dollars in grants for the implementation of 97 projects across various regions of the Republic of Moldova.
These investments reflect the strengthening of cooperation relations between Japan and the Republic of Moldova, as well as the commitment to the sustainable development of local communities, particularly in rural areas where infrastructure needs remain significant.
The inauguration event in Andrușul de Jos concluded with an artistic program performed by local children, featuring dances, songs, and musical performances dedicated to the guests and the community.
