Japan supports the modernization of railway infrastructure and logistics in the Republic of Moldova

The Republic of Moldova benefits from the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency in the process of modernizing railway infrastructure and logistics.

The topics were discussed during a meeting attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, State Secretary Mircea Păscăluță, and representatives of JICA.

Analysis of logistics flows and the regional market

During the discussions, a report prepared with Japanese support was presented, examining transport flows across different modes, the situation of imports and exports, as well as the demand for logistics services in the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine. The study provides a detailed overview of the regional dynamics of transport.

Promotion of rail transport

An important objective highlighted in the document is the encouragement of shifting freight transport from road to rail. This change aims to optimize logistics chains and increase the economic competitiveness of the sector.

Funding and development programs

The parties discussed cooperation opportunities through short- and medium-term grant programs dedicated to the development of transport and logistics infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova.

Equipping Calea Ferată din Moldova with modern equipment

A separate topic concerned the modernization project of the Calea Ferată din Moldova, which foresees equipping it with machinery, specialized vehicles, and railway equipment necessary for infrastructure maintenance.

Exchange of experience and best practices

Additionally, the possibility of organizing study visits to Japan for representatives of Moldovan institutions was discussed, with the aim of adopting Japanese experience and best practices in the railway sector.
