Maia Sandu, visit to Bucharest | Discussions with President Nicușor Dan and the Ecumenical Patriarch on cross-border projects and economic development

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, conducted an official visit to Bucharest, where she held meetings with the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, and with His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I.

The discussions focused on strengthening cross-border cooperation, advancing joint projects, and promoting economic development, as well as supporting Moldova’s European integration.

Cross-border projects and economic impact

During the meeting with President Nicușor Dan, emphasis was placed on initiatives aimed at delivering tangible benefits to citizens on both sides of the Prut River. Priorities included infrastructure development, education and healthcare support, and economic projects designed to attract investments and create jobs.

“Our strategic partnership has a direct impact on the economy and on people’s quality of life. Cooperation between Moldova and Romania is a driver of regional development,” Maia Sandu stated.

Support for European integration

A central topic of the discussions was Romania’s support for Moldova’s European path. President Sandu reaffirmed her country’s commitment to continue the necessary reforms to uphold the rule of law and to accelerate the EU accession process, with active involvement from strategic partners.

In her meeting with the Ecumenical Patriarch, discussions focused on the role of faith in promoting peace, solidarity, and social cohesion. President Sandu expressed gratitude for the spiritual support and emphasized that Christian values contribute to strengthening community ties and maintaining regional stability.
