On the occasion of Romanian Language Day, observed on August 31, President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, delivered a tribute message dedicated to the Romanian language and to the generations that have contributed to preserving it over time.

A language preserved despite restrictions

The Head of State emphasized that the Romanian language is an important part of the identity of the people living across the Prut River and highlighted the efforts made by parents and grandparents to preserve it during periods marked by restrictions and pressure.

According to Maia Sandu, thanks to previous generations, the Romanian language has continued to be spoken and passed on, and today it can be used freely, without fear of reprisals.

The responsibility to pass the language on to future generations

The President of the Republic of Moldova stressed the need to protect and promote the Romanian language and called for passing on to children a love for the language and culture.

Maia Sandu highlighted the importance of preserving the language as a living heritage, through which future generations can express their stories, traditions, songs and emotions.

Romanian Language Day marked in three countries

Romanian Language Day is celebrated annually on August 31 in the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine, through events dedicated to promoting the Romanian language and culture.

The National Dictation and cultural events

In the Republic of Moldova, the tradition is marked by the organization of the National Dictation, an event held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Moldova.

This year, an edition of the National Dictation is also being organized in Romania, while in Ukraine, cultural events dedicated to the Romanian language are being held.

Through these events, the three countries highlight the Romanian language, culture and heritage, strengthening cultural ties between the communities that speak the language.
