President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu: “Romania Needs a Stable Government to Continue Strategic Projects”

The President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu, believes that Romania needs, as soon as possible, a stable government firmly committed to European values, capable of continuing joint projects and supporting the Republic of Moldova’s European integration process.

The Moldovan official emphasized that the prolonged political uncertainty is affecting both Romania’s domestic priorities and bilateral cooperation between the two countries. In his view, the authorities’ focus should remain on implementing strategic projects and fulfilling shared commitments.

Confidence in the Formation of a New Government

Igor Grosu expressed confidence that the leaders of Romania’s pro-European parties will be able to reach an agreement on the formation of a new government.

He noted that Romania has important responsibilities to fulfill, including the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), as well as other strategic commitments, making the swift establishment of a fully empowered government essential.

Background of the Government Crisis

Romania has been governed by an interim administration for more than 50 days after the process of forming a new government reached a deadlock. Two attempts to appoint a prime minister failed to result in the inauguration of a new cabinet: one nomination was rejected by Parliament, while the other was withdrawn before the vote.

The political crisis began on April 23, when PSD ministers withdrew from the government led by Ilie Bolojan. To ensure administrative continuity, interim ministers were appointed to lead several ministries, with some portfolios being managed simultaneously by the same members of the Cabinet.

Subsequently, at the beginning of May, the Bolojan Government was dismissed through a vote of no confidence. Since then, the executive has continued to exercise its duties in a caretaker capacity until a new government with a full mandate is formed and sworn into office.
