Chinese President Xi Jinping stated on Friday that Beijing and Washington can achieve mutual success and shared prosperity, to the benefit of both countries and the entire world.
In a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, the Chinese leader emphasized that, in order to realize this vision, both sides must act in concert, guided by mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.
The two heads of state held a candid and in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and international issues of common concern, setting strategic directions for stable development of relations in the period ahead. Beijing described the discussion as pragmatic, positive, and constructive.
Xi recalled that China and the United States were allies during World War II. He noted that China had recently solemnly marked the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, inviting the families of the “Flying Tigers” to attend the military parade at Tian’anmen Square. The Chinese leader stressed that the Chinese people will not forget the support given by the U.S. and other anti-fascist allies, calling on both countries to honor the memory of the heroes, heed the lessons of history, cherish peace, and build the future together.
Regarding current bilateral relations, Xi underlined their special importance and welcomed the spirit of equality and mutual benefit reflected in recent consultations. He stated that the two governments must continue to carefully manage major issues and seek mutually beneficial outcomes. At the same time, the Chinese leader cautioned the U.S. side against imposing unilateral trade restrictions that could undermine the progress achieved through negotiations.
On the issue of TikTok, Xi said that China’s position is clear: the government respects the company’s decisions, welcomes business negotiations carried out in line with market rules, and supports finding a solution that complies with Chinese law and takes into account the interests of both sides. The Chinese president urged Washington to ensure an open, fair, and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese companies investing in the U.S.
For his part, Donald Trump described the military parade in Beijing as “phenomenal” and “magnificent.” He stressed that the relationship between China and the United States is the most important bilateral relationship in the world and affirmed that, through cooperation, the two nations can achieve “great things” in support of global peace and stability.
The American president expressed his desire to strengthen an excellent, comprehensive, and long-term relationship with China. He also reiterated Washington’s interest in advancing economic and trade cooperation, as well as its support for continued bilateral consultations regarding TikTok. Trump added that the United States is ready to work with China to help maintain global peace.
