Republic of Moldova marks 35 years of Independence. Programme of events

The Republic of Moldova is celebrating 35 years since the proclamation of Independence, with a festive programme that will include official ceremonies, a military parade and a concert in the Great National Assembly Square. Romanian President Nicușor Dan and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are expected to attend the events in Chișinău.

Floral tribute ceremonies

The official programme will begin at 08:30, with a floral tribute at the „Grieving Mother” monument in the „Eternity” Memorial Complex. Officials will subsequently lay flowers at the monument to Stephen the Great and Holy.

The ceremonies will be attended by President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu, and Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.

Military parade in central Chișinău

In the afternoon, President Maia Sandu will welcome Romanian President Nicușor Dan. The two officials will attend the military parade scheduled for 16:30 in the Great National Assembly Square.

The parade will bring together more than 2,000 military personnel and employees of the security and law enforcement structures, while the public will have the opportunity to see more than 100 units of military and specialised equipment operated by the National Army and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Concert dedicated to Independence Day

Starting at 18:00, the Great National Assembly Square will host a concert dedicated to Independence Day, featuring several artists from the Republic of Moldova.

At the same time, Maia Sandu will welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who will take part in the events marking the anniversary of the Republic of Moldova’s Independence.

Trilateral meeting between Romania – Republic of Moldova – Ukraine

Subsequently, Maia Sandu, Nicușor Dan and Volodymyr Zelenskyy will participate in a trilateral meeting of delegations from the three countries, focused on cooperation between the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine.

At 19:25, the three heads of state will deliver press statements, after which they will address citizens gathered in the Great National Assembly Square.

Parliament illuminated in the colours of the national flag

The events marking 35 years of Independence will continue throughout the evening. Starting at 20:45, the building of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova will be illuminated in the colours of the national flag, symbolically marking this national anniversary.
