The Republic of Moldova and Japan Strengthen Cooperation on Environmental Protection and Sustainable Resource Management

The Republic of Moldova and Japan are exploring new opportunities for cooperation in environmental protection, water resource management, and the development of modern solutions aimed at reducing pollution. The topics were discussed during a meeting between Minister of Environment Gheorghe Hajder and Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova Kazuyuki Takeuchi.

Joint Crediting Mechanism – Modern Technologies for a Cleaner Environment

One of the main topics discussed was the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM), an instrument through which the Republic of Moldova and Japan can develop joint projects based on modern and efficient technologies. Cooperation under this mechanism aims to reduce emissions and pollution while promoting technological solutions with a positive impact on the environment.

The Dniester River – Water Quality Monitoring and Pollution Prevention

The officials also discussed the situation of the Dniester River, including pollution incidents recorded this spring and the current decrease in water flow. In this context, Minister Gheorghe Hajder highlighted the Republic of Moldova’s interest in Japan’s experience in water quality monitoring, pollution prevention, and sustainable water resource management.

Japanese Expertise in Afforestation, Recycling and the Circular Economy

Another area of interest is the use of Japanese expertise in afforestation, recycling and the circular economy. Cooperation in these fields could contribute to the development of sustainable solutions and strengthen the Republic of Moldova’s capacity to address environmental challenges.

New Projects for Environmental Protection and Quality of Life

The Minister of Environment expressed appreciation for the support provided by Japan to the Republic of Moldova and emphasized the authorities’ interest in developing new joint projects. These initiatives are expected to contribute both to environmental protection and the responsible use of natural resources, as well as to improving public services and the quality of life of citizens.
