Parliament dedicates September to promoting democracy

Throughout September, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is organizing a series of activities dedicated to democracy, civic education, public participation and dialogue with citizens, in the context of the International Day of Democracy. The programme includes guided tours, meetings with MPs, educational activities, creative workshops, thematic exhibitions and interactive events.

Educational activities for pupils and students

An important component of the programme is dedicated to pupils and students, who will have the opportunity to learn more about how Parliament functions and about the principles of democracy in an interactive format.

Young people will take part in the “Democracy Hour”, legislative simulation exercises, games and other educational activities. Children will also be invited to participate in a creative workshop, where they will illustrate their own vision of democracy and Parliament.

Citizens invited to propose solutions for a stronger democracy

The programme also places emphasis on the direct involvement of citizens. People visiting Parliament will have the opportunity to submit concrete proposals for strengthening democracy through a specially designated suggestion box located inside the institution.

Educational games and initiatives for young people

The sixth edition of the educational game “LAW for YOU(ng people)” will also take place in September, aimed at familiarizing young people with the legislative process and the role of democratic institutions.

At the same time, Parliament will host the launch of the ninth edition of the national programme “Under Guguță’s Cap”, organized by the Association of Intellectual Games of the Republic of Moldova.

Concert dedicated to patriotic music

One of the month’s major cultural events will take place on Saturday, September 12, in the Parliament Square. The gala concert of the Patriotic Music Festival “I Sing to You, Homeland and Nation” will be held there.

The event will bring together artistic ensembles and performers from across the country, selected following a nationwide competition.

Information activities in the regions

The parliamentary outreach programme will also extend to the regions, with the aim of bringing information about the role and activities of Parliament closer to citizens.

Information sessions and discussions with young people will be held in Comrat and Taraclia, focusing on topics such as democracy, civic participation and the role of Parliament in the Republic of Moldova’s accession process to the European Union.

An initiative organized annually since 2017

The parliamentary outreach programme has been organized annually by Parliament since 2017 and is held in the context of the International Day of Democracy, observed each year on September 15.

The International Day of Democracy was established following a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007, highlighting the importance of democracy and democratic values worldwide.
