The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova to Review the Investiture of the Government Led by Prime Minister-Designate Vasile Tofan

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova will convene in a plenary session on Tuesday, July 21, to examine the Programme of Activity of the future Executive and decide on granting a vote of confidence to the Cabinet of Ministers led by Prime Minister-designate Vasile Tofan.

The decision to convene the plenary session was approved by the Parliament’s Standing Bureau.

Nomination of the Prime Minister-Designate

Vasile Tofan was nominated to form the new Government by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, following consultations with the parliamentary factions. His mandate includes drafting the Government Programme and assembling the ministerial team that will be submitted to Parliament for a vote of confidence.

Consultations to Finalize the Government Programme

In the lead-up to the parliamentary session, the Prime Minister-designate is holding consultations with representatives of professional and business associations, civil society organizations, and parliamentary factions. These discussions are aimed at finalizing the Government’s Programme of Activity and determining the composition of the future Cabinet of Ministers.

Constitutional Investiture Procedure

Under the legal framework, the Government may be invested only after securing the vote of confidence of the majority of elected Members of Parliament. Following the parliamentary vote, the President of the Republic of Moldova formally appoints the new Government by decree.

Role of the Government

According to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the Government is responsible for implementing the country’s domestic and foreign policies and exercises the general administration of the public sector. The Executive carries out its mandate on the basis of the Government Programme approved by Parliament.
