Republic of Moldova Proposes Strategic Infrastructure Projects in Bender Through the Future Convergence Fund
Chișinău Proposes Two Infrastructure Projects in Bender, to Be Financed Through the Future Convergence Fund
The authorities in Chișinău have submitted two infrastructure project proposals to Tiraspol for the municipality of Bender, which could receive funding through the future Convergence Fund. The initiatives envisage the development of a center providing medical and social services, as well as the construction of a wastewater treatment plant. The information was presented by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri during the “Teritoria Svobodî” program.
Proposals Discussed in the “1+1” Format
According to Valeriu Chiveri, the two projects were presented to Tiraspol representative Vitali Ignatiev during a meeting held in the “1+1” format. So far, the Transnistrian side has not provided an official response, as additional time is needed to examine the proposals.
Center for Medical and Social Assistance Services
One of the projects envisages transforming a five-storey building managed by the “Moldsilva” forestry authority in Bender into a center for family doctors and social assistance services. The building is currently underutilized, while some of its premises are occupied by the OSCE Mission.
Through the implementation of the project, the authorities aim to facilitate access for residents of the Transnistrian region to medical and social services closer to their homes, reducing the need to travel to the right bank of the Dniester. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the number of people from the region seeking medical care at institutions on the right bank is increasing.
Wastewater Treatment Plant for the Municipality of Bender
The second initiative proposed by Chișinău concerns the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Bender. The project involves significant costs, and the authorities are considering identifying additional sources of funding, including through the involvement of external partners.
More Than 500 Million Lei to Support the Population
Valeriu Chiveri stated that, according to Government estimates, more than 500 million lei are expected to be allocated by the end of the year for measures aimed at supporting residents of the Transnistrian region. During the first half of the year, 218 million lei were allocated from the state budget for this purpose.
The Convergence Fund and Funding Sources
Regarding the future Convergence Fund, the Deputy Prime Minister said that it is still too early to estimate the amount of resources that will be accumulated. According to him, the economic situation in the region remains unstable and is also affected by developments in the energy market.
If the resources of the Convergence Fund do not fully cover the costs of the proposed projects, the authorities in Chișinău intend to identify additional sources of funding, including allocations from the state budget.
