Republic of Moldova | Wine Tourism Entrepreneurs Can Participate in the European Innovation Competition Launched by UN Tourism

Wine tourism, which combines wine culture, local traditions, gastronomy and the heritage of wine-growing regions, continues to expand rapidly worldwide.

This tourism segment promotes rural destinations, supports local economies and strengthens the identity of wine-producing regions.

In the Republic of Moldova, wine is one of the country’s strongest national brands, while the development of wine tourism is regarded as a key driver for enhancing the competitiveness of the tourism sector.

European Competition Launched by UN Tourism

To support the transformation and modernization of this sector, the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) has launched the European Wine Tourism Innovation Challenge, a competition dedicated to startups, entrepreneurs, SMEs and innovators developing solutions for the European wine tourism industry.

The application deadline is 1 September, and the initiative aims to identify projects capable of redefining the visitor experience through modern technologies and sustainable development models.

The competition places a strong emphasis on creating authentic and immersive experiences that showcase local heritage and actively engage local communities.

Who Can Apply

The competition is open to startups, entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises, wine producers, as well as destination management organizations operating across Europe.

The initiative aims to connect stakeholders across the tourism ecosystem while supporting the implementation of projects with economic, technological and social impact.

These opportunities can accelerate the growth and international expansion of innovative wine tourism solutions.

An Opportunity to Promote the Republic of Moldova

Andrei Chistol emphasized that the Republic of Moldova possesses an internationally recognized wine heritage and is part of European wine tourism networks, creating favorable conditions for the development of competitive projects.

In recent years, the sector has experienced steady growth, while numerous initiatives have demonstrated that the wine industry can be successfully integrated with the creative industries, digital technologies and immersive experiences, generating attractive and competitive tourism products.

Impact on Sector Development

Participation in this competition represents an important opportunity to promote the Republic of Moldova as a leading European wine tourism destination and to strengthen its international profile.
