Romania attracts over 2 billion euros for strategic investments in energy and infrastructure following discussions in Washington

Romania has secured financing commitments of over two billion euros for strategic projects following the visit to Washington by Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare. The funds target key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and economic development.

Allocation of funds

The largest share of the financing is directed toward the energy sector, particularly nuclear energy and natural gas. Approximately one billion euros will be mobilized through instruments of the World Bank Group to modernize Unit 1 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant. Additionally, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has expressed its intention to contribute around 400 million euros to the same project.

Loan for structural reforms

In parallel, a 650 million USD loan from the World Bank is being prepared to support structural reforms. It will contribute to the energy transition, decarbonization, energy efficiency, and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises.

High-level meetings

During the visit to Washington, the minister held discussions with high-ranking officials, including the President of the World Bank Group, marking a first for a Romanian finance minister. These meetings contributed to strengthening international financial partnerships.
