The Conclusion of a Seven-Year Diplomatic Mission

After seven years of diplomatic activity in Transcarpathia, Romania’s Consul in Solotvyno, Florin-Grațian Pîrvu, is concluding his mandate and returning to Bucharest. His tenure was marked by strengthened good-neighborly relations and the development of cooperation between Romania and Ukraine.

Cross-Border Cooperation as a Priority

During this period, the Consulate of Romania in Solotvyno played an important role in facilitating dialogue between authorities and communities on both sides of the border. The diplomatic mission supported projects aimed at transforming bilateral relations into concrete initiatives for economic and regional cooperation.

The Tisza Bridge, a Strategic Connectivity Project

One of the most important projects developed during this period is the construction of the bridge over the Tisza River, which will connect Sighetu Marmației in Romania with Bila Tserkva in Ukraine.

The investment, to which Consul Florin-Grațian Pîrvu also contributed, is nearing completion. Once operational, the new connection is expected to facilitate the movement of people and goods and create new opportunities for trade, tourism and economic cooperation in the border area.

New Connections Between Romania and Ukraine

The cooperation agenda also includes projects aimed at developing cross-border infrastructure. These include a cycling route connecting Transcarpathia with Maramureș and Bihor County, as well as the possible opening of new border crossing points, including in the Yablunivka–Remetea and Hîja–Tarna Mare areas.

These projects are intended to improve mobility and strengthen links between communities located along the Romanian-Ukrainian border.

Improved Access to Airport Infrastructure

Another objective of the cooperation is to facilitate access for residents of Transcarpathia to airports in northern Romania, particularly those in Satu Mare and Baia Mare.

Solutions such as transfer services and simplified passenger control procedures are being considered, measures that could contribute to stronger regional connectivity and increased cross-border mobility.

Tourism and Agriculture as New Areas of Cooperation

Cooperation between the two regions also includes the promotion of cross-border tourism. The authorities aim to facilitate access for tourists from Transcarpathia to destinations near the Romanian border while also promoting tourist attractions in the Ukrainian region among visitors from Romania.

In the agricultural sector, projects such as the purchase of sheep from Romania are being considered, alongside the continuation of cross-border projects and the expansion of partnerships between cities and communities in the two countries.

Recognition for Contribution to Romanian-Ukrainian Relations

At the end of his mandate, Florin-Grațian Pîrvu received a joint distinction from the Regional Military Administration and the Transcarpathian Regional Council in recognition of his contribution to the development of the region’s international relations and to strengthening cooperation between Romania and Ukraine.

Transcarpathian officials also highlighted the support provided by the Romanian diplomat to Ukraine following the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, as well as his involvement in developing relations with Romanian partners and promoting joint projects.

A Mandate That Leaves Behind Lasting Partnerships

At the conclusion of his mission, Florin-Grațian Pîrvu stated that, among the four diplomatic assignments he had undertaken during his 23-year career, his time in Transcarpathia was the one closest to his heart. “Transcarpathia will remain in my heart,” the diplomat said.

The conclusion of a diplomatic mandate does not, however, mean the end of the relationships built during this period. Infrastructure projects, economic and tourism initiatives, and partnerships between communities provide a foundation for continuing friendship, good-neighborly relations and cooperation between Romania and Transcarpathia.
