RON 3.57 Billion Investment in the A8 Motorway Section That Will Connect Romania and the Republic of Moldova

The National Road Investment Company (CNIR) has signed the contract for the design and construction of Section 4 of the Union Motorway (A8), one of the most significant infrastructure investments aimed at connecting Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

The project is financed through the European SAFE programme, dedicated to strengthening defence capabilities and developing strategic infrastructure. The contract is valued at approximately RON 3.57 billion.

The Final Section of the A8 and the Motorway Extension Across the Prut River

The contract was awarded to an Italian consortium, which will design and build the final 15.5 kilometres of the A8 motorway on Romanian territory, linking Târgu Mureș, Iași and Ungheni. At the same time, the project marks a regional milestone by including the construction of the first 5 kilometres of motorway on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, beyond the Prut River.

46-Month Implementation Period

The project is scheduled to be completed within 46 months, including 10 months for design activities and 36 months for construction works. As part of the contract, priority will be given to the 2.77-kilometre section between the Golăiești interchange and the road bridge over the Prut River at Ungheni, considered essential for ensuring a direct motorway connection between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
