Strengthened support of the Council of Europe for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and the deepening of regional cooperation
The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, reiterated the institution’s support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
During a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi, the official praised the current level of cooperation between the parties.
Preparation for the Ministerial Session
The discussions also focused on the organization of the Council of Europe Ministerial Session, scheduled to take place in Chișinău on May 14–15. The event will bring together the foreign ministers of the 46 member states and will mark the end of the Republic of Moldova’s mandate at the helm of the Committee of Ministers.
Regional Context and Security
At the same time, the parties analyzed security developments in the region, particularly the impact of the war in Ukraine, emphasizing the need for a coordinated and unified European response.
Cooperation Agreement for Ukraine
During the meeting, an agreement was signed between the Council of Europe and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova regarding the country’s voluntary contribution to the organization’s Action Plan for Ukraine.
Parliamentary Dialogue and Institutional Cooperation
Additionally, Mihai Popșoi held a meeting with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Petra Bayr. The two officials reaffirmed the high level of cooperation and highlighted the organization’s role in strengthening democracy and the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova.
Resilience Against Disinformation
Petra Bayr noted the Republic of Moldova’s capacity to counter disinformation, emphasizing that the practices developed in this area could serve as a model for other countries.
