Surgeons from Ukraine and Romania Strengthen Medical Cooperation through Experience-Sharing in Laparoscopic Surgery

Surgeons from Zakarpattia Take Part in an International Experience-Sharing Programme
Eleven surgeons from the A. Novak Regional Hospital in Zakarpattia took part, from 21–24 September, in Baia Mare, Romania, in an international programme dedicated to sharing experience in the field of laparoscopic abdominal surgery.
The event brought together a total of 23 surgeons from Romania and Ukraine, providing specialists from the two countries with an opportunity to work together, analyse clinical cases and exchange experience regarding the use of modern techniques in abdominal surgery.
Surgical Procedures and Clinical Case Presentations
Over the three days of medical activities, surgeons from Zakarpattia observed and participated in surgical procedures corresponding to their areas of specialisation, gaining the opportunity to directly observe the methods and techniques used by their Romanian colleagues.
The programme also included clinical case presentations and discussions among specialists, allowing participants to compare medical approaches and solutions used in different surgical situations.
Direct participation in the medical activities enabled the Ukrainian doctors to examine both the technical aspects of the procedures and the organisation of the surgical process and the management of complex cases.
Modern Laparoscopic Abdominal Surgery Techniques
The programme focused on modern techniques in laparoscopic and minimally invasive abdominal surgery, used in the treatment of several categories of medical conditions.
The topics addressed included surgical procedures for digestive system disorders, neoplastic conditions and abdominal wall disorders, as well as surgical methods that enable procedures to be performed using minimally invasive techniques.
The experience-sharing programme aimed to familiarise participants with modern approaches and practices, as well as to discuss how these methods can be applied in day-to-day medical practice.
Comparison of Medical Protocols and Clinical Practices
An important component of the programme was the opportunity to compare the surgical protocols, medical procedures and clinical practices used in Romania and Ukraine.
Direct dialogue between specialists enabled participants to identify similarities and differences in the management of surgical cases, the preparation of procedures and the use of laparoscopic techniques.
Such exchanges contribute to the continuous professional development of doctors and facilitate the transfer of knowledge and expertise between medical institutions in the two countries.
Strengthening Medical Cooperation between Zakarpattia and Maramureș
The programme in Baia Mare also had an important component focused on strengthening cooperation between medical institutions in Zakarpattia Region and Maramureș County.
Through joint participation in practical activities and professional exchanges, specialists had the opportunity to establish direct contacts and create the foundations for continued cooperation in the healthcare sector.
Cooperation between the two regions could facilitate further exchanges of experience, professional training activities and joint healthcare initiatives, particularly in areas where minimally invasive technologies and techniques are continuously developing.
European Support through the Interreg VI-A NEXT Romania–Ukraine Programme
The experience-sharing programme was organised within the framework of the Interreg VI-A NEXT Romania–Ukraine 2021–2027 programme, with the support of the European Union, as part of efforts to develop cross-border cooperation in the healthcare sector.
Through such initiatives, partners from Romania and Ukraine can develop joint projects aimed at strengthening the capacity of medical institutions, exchanging expertise and improving the services provided to patients.
The Regional Development Agency of Zakarpattia Region states that responsibility for the content of the publication rests solely with its authors, and that the information presented does not necessarily reflect the official position of the European Union or the programme management structures.
