“The Chernivtsi Code”: Chernivtsi University Becomes the Setting for an Audiovisual Installation Dedicated to the City’s Anniversary

Art Installation to Be Presented Over Three Evenings

To mark the 618th anniversary of the first documented mention of the city of Chernivtsi, the façade of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University will become the backdrop for a large-scale audiovisual art installation entitled “The Chernivtsi Code”.

The project will be presented from October 2 to 4, every evening from 20:00 to 23:00. The information was announced on the Facebook page of Chernivtsi Mayor Roman Klychuk.

A Project Created Specifically for Chernivtsi

The artistic concept of the installation was created by Mykola Kabluka, an artist and lighting designer, as well as the founder and artistic director of Expolight. For the project, he prepared original visual content in the form of a large-scale 3D mapping projection, together with a sound design created specifically for the event.

According to the organizers, the project combines light, graphics, architecture and sound into a single audiovisual composition. Through the projections, the façade of the building will be transformed into a dynamic space in which artistic imagery interacts with the architectural elements.

An Artistic Interpretation of the City’s Identity

“The Chernivtsi Code” is conceived as an artistic exploration of the city’s identity and the elements that have shaped its development over generations.

According to the organizers, Chernivtsi is presented as a space where different cultures, traditions, forms of art, scientific fields and educational traditions have intersected and interacted. These elements are brought together in a visual and sonic narrative dedicated to the city.

The project’s dramaturgy follows a journey from the natural and cultural origins of Chernivtsi toward themes associated with creativity, knowledge, innovation and the future.

The University’s Architecture Becomes Part of the Show

A central element of the installation is the façade of the Metropolitan Building of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, which will serve as the surface for the 3D mapping projections.

The visual content has been designed to highlight the architectural features of the building, while the graphics and lighting effects will be integrated into the façade. In this way, the university’s architectural heritage becomes an active part of the performance.

Projections Lasting Approximately Six Minutes

The audiovisual installation will last approximately six minutes and will be presented cyclically over the course of the three evenings.

The projections can be viewed between 20:00 and 23:00 on October 2, 3 and 4, allowing the public to attend the event throughout the scheduled programme.

Free Admission for the Public

Admission to the event is free, with attendance subject to the access rules applicable on the premises of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University.

By combining modern projection technologies with the university’s historic architecture, “The Chernivtsi Code” offers a contemporary way to mark the city’s anniversary and highlight its cultural and architectural heritage.
