The Government of the Republic of Moldova has approved the National Tourism Development Program for 2026–2029, entitled “Tourism 2029”, a strategic framework designed to transform tourism into a sector that makes a significant contribution to the country’s economic growth.

The Program aims to attract a larger number of visitors, stimulate local businesses, create new economic opportunities, and support the development of communities across the country.

A Strategic Sector for Investment and Regional Development

The Program recognizes tourism as a strategic economic sector with a substantial impact on the national economy, capable of fostering regional development, boosting service exports, attracting investment, and encouraging local entrepreneurship. It also places a strong emphasis on promoting and enhancing the value of the Republic of Moldova’s cultural and natural heritage.

MDL 618.2 Million in Investments Through 2029

The Program will be implemented through an Action Plan covering the 2026–2029 period, backed by funding of approximately MDL 618.2 million. According to government estimates, the planned measures will strengthen tourism’s contribution to the national economy and support the creation of approximately 5,000 new jobs.

Modern Infrastructure and Digital Promotion

The Program’s key priorities include the modernization of tourism infrastructure, the development of professional skills within the sector, and the promotion of tourism destinations through modern digital solutions. It also supports the expansion of rural tourism and the more effective use of the country’s cultural, natural, and wine tourism heritage.

2025 Results Confirm the Sector’s Growth Potential

Tourism performance indicators for 2025 demonstrate the sector’s positive momentum in the Republic of Moldova. The country welcomed more than 600,000 visitors and generated over MDL 5 billion in tourism revenues, highlighting the growing interest in Moldova as a travel destination and the industry’s significant development potential.
