The Government of the Republic of Moldova is creating a dedicated service for relations with Romania within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in order to streamline bilateral cooperation

The Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova welcomed the decision of the government in Chișinău to establish a special service dedicated to relations with Romania within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, considering this measure a natural and beneficial step toward strengthening the strategic cooperation between the two states.

Significance of the initiative

According to embassy representatives, the initiative reflects the high level of maturity of the bilateral partnership and the need for more efficient coordination, in the context of an intensifying political dialogue and expanding cooperation across various fields. It also highlights the importance that Moldovan authorities attach to their privileged relationship with Romania.

Support for the European path

Romania reaffirms its consistent support for the reforms and modernization of the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing that strengthening the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs directly contributes to achieving common objectives, particularly regarding European integration. The new structure is seen as a tool that will streamline cooperation and deliver concrete results for citizens on both banks of the Prut River.

Context of the government’s decision

The decision to create the Romania Relations Service comes amid an increase in the workload of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, driven by the advancement of the EU accession process, the development of external relations, and the management of a growing number of international agreements and consular cases.

Arguments of the Moldovan authorities

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi explained that, until now, a single official was responsible for managing relations with several states simultaneously. In the case of Romania, however, the complexity and intensity of the relationship justify the existence of a dedicated service, so that an expert can focus exclusively on developing this strategic partnership.
