The National Tourism Office Supports the Valorisation of Cultural Heritage for the Development of Tourism and the Local Economy in the Republic of Moldova

The “National Treasure” Festival Promotes Cultural Heritage and Authentic Tourism in the Republic of Moldova

On 22–23 August 2026, the village of Horești, Ialoveni District, hosted the sixth edition of the “National Treasure” Festival, an event dedicated to showcasing cultural heritage, promoting folk traditions, and developing tourism based on authentic experiences.

National Tourism Office Involved in Promoting Cultural Heritage

The National Tourism Office of the Republic of Moldova participated in the opening ceremony. Acting Director Ana Sandra delivered a welcome address to the participants and guests and served as a member of the festival jury, contributing to the evaluation of the three categories: “Traditional House”, “Peasant Courtyard”, and “Traditional Food Table”.

More Than 30 Folk Ensembles and International Participants

The festival brought together more than 30 folk and traditional dance ensembles from different regions of the Republic of Moldova. The event also featured folk craftsmen, artisans and local producers, as well as guests from Romania, Ukraine and France, strengthening the cultural and tourism dimension of the event.

Traditions and Gastronomy Turned into Tourist Experiences

Over the course of the two-day event, visitors enjoyed performances, the Traditional Costume Parade, traditional exhibitions, fairs featuring craftsmen and artisans, local gastronomy, as well as creative workshops for children and adults. This year’s edition also introduced a new element – the “National Gathering”, organised for the first time and dedicated to preserving and passing on folk traditions.

Cultural Events Create Opportunities for the Local Economy

From an economic perspective, events that showcase cultural heritage can contribute to the development of rural tourism and increase the visibility of local producers and entrepreneurs. The participation of craftsmen, artisans and local producers creates opportunities to promote and market local products, while visitor flows can support accommodation, food service and leisure businesses.

National Tourism Office Supports Authentic Tourism

For the second consecutive year, the National Tourism Office has been a partner of the “National Treasure” Festival, supporting initiatives that showcase cultural heritage and promote local communities. This partnership reflects a commitment to developing authentic tourism experiences and strengthening the attractiveness of the Republic of Moldova as a tourist destination.

Culture and Tourism as Drivers of Regional Development

The “National Treasure” Festival highlights the potential of traditions, gastronomy, crafts and local production to become resources for the economic and tourism development of communities. By connecting cultural heritage with local economic activities, events of this kind contribute to promoting the regions of the Republic of Moldova and creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs and local communities.
