The Republic of Moldova Offers 50% Discounts on the Transit of Ukrainian Goods and Expects Millions of Euros in Revenue for CFM

The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine have reached an agreement on the transportation of Ukrainian goods via the Moldovan Railways (CFM), along the railway section crossing the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

The agreement, negotiated by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development together with the Ukrainian side, aims to generate economic benefits for both countries.

50% Discount to Attract Transit Flows

To attract a larger share of Ukrainian freight flows, the Republic of Moldova has offered a 50% discount on transit tariffs. The measure is intended to capitalize on the significant volumes of goods that Ukraine plans to transport during the 2026 agricultural year.

Up to 6 Million Tons of Goods

According to estimates, Ukraine plans to export and transport up to 6 million tons of goods during the 2026 agricultural year, along various regional routes. The Republic of Moldova aims to attract approximately 10% of this volume through its railway infrastructure.

Additional Revenue for CFM

Despite the significant discount, authorities estimate that the additional transit volumes will generate revenue and profits for Moldovan Railways. The economic potential of the agreement is estimated at several million euros, while the authorities aim for CFM to attract as large a share of these freight flows as possible.

Increasing Railway Capacity

In parallel with the implementation of the agreement, the authorities are working to increase CFM’s capacity in order to ensure more efficient management of additional freight flows and capitalize on the opportunities offered by regional transit.

Implementation of the Agreement and Modification of the Kyiv–Chișinău Route

The new tariff regime will apply from August 10 through the end of 2026. At the same time, starting August 17, the route of the Kyiv–Chișinău train will be modified under the agreement between the two countries.

More Convenient Access to Chișinău International Airport

The route modification will facilitate the transfer of Ukrainian citizens to Chișinău International Airport, providing them with a more convenient and efficient connection to the Republic of Moldova’s main international airport.
