The United States Invests $15 Million to Modernize Critical Communications and Infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova

The United States continues to support the development and security of the Republic of Moldova through significant investments in critical infrastructure and emergency communications, according to Nick Pietrowicz, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Chișinău, during the television program “Dimensiunea Diplomatică” on Moldova 1.

The $15 million project aims to create a dedicated network, separate from public infrastructure, ensuring fast and secure communication between police, firefighters, and border services in emergencies, natural disasters, or other crises.

“We are building a separate communications network so that in the event of a catastrophe, border services, police, and firefighters can communicate quickly and securely. This is something we are currently working on in Moldova,” Pietrowicz explained. The U.S. official emphasized that the initiative is inspired by the lessons learned in the United States after the September 11, 2001 attacks, adapted to the regional context marked by the war in Ukraine and hybrid and cyber threats.

The investment includes not only technical infrastructure but also training Moldovan specialists. In addition, the U.S. has financed the modernization of investigative capacities through a $1.7 million forensic laboratory and collaborates with authorities at the border to strengthen control and analyze flows.

In the energy sector, the U.S. supports the construction of the Strășeni–Gutinaș power line with $130 million, providing Moldova with a stable and secure European energy connection, contributing to the country’s energy independence.

Pietrowicz also reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, including the Transnistrian region, noting that the United States will continue to support discussions for resolving the Transnistrian conflict.
