Thirty Ukrainian Children to Take Part in a Seven-Day Camp in Maramureș as Part of the “Maramureș for Peace” Project

Thirty children from Ukraine, accompanied by six adults, have arrived in Maramureș County, where they will take part in a seven-day camp organized as part of the European pilot project “Maramureș for Peace”. The initiative is aimed at children from Ukrainian communities and seeks to provide them with a period of rest, recreation and social interaction in a safe environment.

Group Welcomed in Slatina – Solotvino

The group was welcomed on 7 August in Slatina – Solotvino by representatives of the Consulate of Romania, local authorities and the Maramureș Bar Association. The children and their accompanying adults were subsequently transferred to Sighetu Marmației and then to the commune of Oncești, where the camp programme is being held.

A Programme Focused on Children

The project aims to provide participants with several days of rest and recreational activities in a safe and welcoming environment. The programme includes social, recreational and recovery activities designed to contribute to the children’s well-being and give them the opportunity to discover the communities and attractions of Maramureș.

Institutional and European Support

The “Maramureș for Peace” project is supported by the Senate of Romania and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The main initiator of the project is Senator Cristian Augustin Niculescu-Țâgârlaș, while the programme is being organized with the involvement of the Maramureș Bar Association and the Association of Members of the Maramureș Bar Association.

The initiative has also received contributions from Florin Andreicuț, Dean of the Maramureș Bar Association, Matei Godja, Mayor of Oncești Commune, Iurii Tîmkiv, First Deputy Mayor of the Slatina Territorial Community, as well as representatives of the Senate of Romania.

Cross-Border Cooperation Through Community-Focused Projects

The organization of the camp is an example of cooperation between institutions and local authorities from Romania and Ukraine, with a focus on supporting communities and developing initiatives with a social impact.

The involvement of local authorities and professional organizations contributes to strengthening ties between communities in Romania and Ukraine and creates opportunities for the development of new joint projects.

Initiative Could Be Expanded

The organizers intend to continue and expand the project so that other Ukrainian children can also benefit from opportunities for rest, recreation and recovery in Romania.

Through the “Maramureș for Peace” project, the partners involved aim to turn cross-border cooperation into a concrete instrument of support for communities and children, while further strengthening relations between Romania and Ukraine.
