Transcarpathia strengthens its cross-border cooperation with Romania and the Republic of Moldova

Cross-Border Cooperation and New Partnerships for Community Development

More than 200 representatives of local authorities and public institutions from Romania, Ukraine, and the Republic of Moldova are participating in the tenth annual working and training meeting, dedicated to strengthening cross-border cooperation and increasing the efficiency of local administrations.

A Large Delegation from Transcarpathia

The Transcarpathia region is represented by a delegation consisting of representatives of the Regional Council, mayors, and representatives of territorial communities. Among the participants is Vice-President of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, Vasyl Demianchuk, who took part in the discussions held during the thematic panel sessions.

12 Agreements to Strengthen Cooperation

One of the key moments of the meeting was the signing of 12 cooperation agreements between local authorities from Romanian counties and representatives of the Chernivtsi and Transcarpathia regions.

The new agreements create the conditions for developing long-term institutional relations and initiating joint projects between communities from the three countries.

EU Funding and Digitalisation as Priorities for Local Administrations

Participants aim to exchange experience and best practices, strengthen the capacity of local administrations, and develop new partnerships for projects of common interest.

The main topics addressed include accessing European funding, digitalising public administration, increasing transparency, and involving citizens in the decision-making process. Cultural cooperation and the promotion of cultural heritage are also important areas of collaboration.

Partnerships as an Opportunity for the Development of Transcarpathia

Representatives of Transcarpathia believe that the new partnerships can facilitate access for communities in the region to European funding and contribute to the implementation of concrete local development projects.

According to the Vice-President of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, the region’s geographical position, as well as its historical and cultural ties with European states, provide additional opportunities to expand cross-border cooperation and bring Ukraine closer to the European Union.
