Ukraine | Germany Announces New EUR 250 Million Support for Energy Infrastructure. Berlin’s Contribution Reaches EUR 810 Million Since the Beginning of the War
Germany Increases Support for Ukraine’s Energy Sector
Germany will provide approximately EUR 250 million in additional funding to support Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, ahead of the fifth winter of war since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
The funds will primarily be used for urgent repairs and measures necessary to maintain the supply of electricity and heating to the population, amid repeated attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
Germany’s Contribution Reaches EUR 810 Million
With the new funding, Germany’s total contribution to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine will reach approximately EUR 810 million, further consolidating Berlin’s position as the fund’s largest donor.
Since 2022, the German federal government has allocated approximately EUR 560 million, while the new contribution brings the total amount of support to around EUR 810 million.
Berlin Considers Ukraine’s Energy Security a European Responsibility
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche stressed that attacks on energy infrastructure represent one of Ukraine’s main vulnerabilities during the war.
According to the German official, the support is aimed both at protecting existing infrastructure and supporting its reconstruction, ensuring that the population can continue to have access to energy and heating in the period ahead.
Reiche also called on international partners to step up their contributions to support Ukraine’s energy sector.
Support for Preparing for the Fifth Winter of War
The new funding comes as Ukraine prepares for another winter under wartime conditions and faces the continued risk of attacks on its energy infrastructure.
By increasing its financial support, Germany aims to contribute to the necessary repairs and help maintain essential energy services for the population, as energy infrastructure has become a strategic focus of the international support provided to Ukraine.
