Ukraine introduces new rules and tools for checking international travel

Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service (DPSU) announces two important changes for citizens planning to travel abroad.

The new provisions concern both the possibility of checking potential travel restrictions in advance and the conditions for women crossing the state border.

Travel restrictions can be checked online

A new feature has been introduced in the DPSU’s “Personal Cabinet”, allowing citizens to check before travelling whether temporary restrictions on leaving Ukraine have been imposed on them.

Such restrictions may result, among other things, from unenforced court decisions, outstanding alimony payments, ongoing enforcement proceedings or other obligations registered with the enforcement service.

The new option allows citizens to verify their legal status in advance, giving them the opportunity to resolve any potential issues before reaching the border crossing point.

Restrictions on women leaving the country have been lifted

Another important change concerns the conditions under which women may leave Ukraine. As of 20 May 2026, amendments to the Regulation on Crossing the State Border, approved by Government Resolution No. 57, have entered into force.

Under the new provisions, restrictions on women leaving Ukraine have been lifted, including for women who are registered for military service.

Military registration does not restrict the right to travel

Women who are required to be registered for military service do not need additional permits or certificates to cross the state border.

In addition, a woman’s profession or field of specialization does not constitute a criterion restricting her right to leave the country. Simply being registered for military service does not, in itself, constitute grounds for refusing border crossing.

Greater predictability for travellers

By introducing the online verification of restrictions and clarifying the rules applicable to women, the Ukrainian authorities aim to give citizens the opportunity to check their status in advance and avoid potential difficulties when crossing the border.
