Ukraine has received a $3.9 billion grant from the United States via the World Bank, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on Monday, according to dpa and Reuters.
“This is the first tranche of direct budget support from the US for 2024. In total, Ukraine will receive $7.8 billion in direct budget assistance from the United States this year, which will help us confidently navigate this financial period,” Shmyhal stated on his Telegram account.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Finance noted in a separate statement that these funds will be used for paying salaries of teachers, emergency services personnel, and other public officials, as well as providing support to displaced persons, low-income families, and people with disabilities.
Since February 2022, direct budget support for Kyiv from the United States has amounted to about $27 billion, making it the largest source of financial assistance for Ukraine, the ministry added.
In total, Kyiv has received over $90 billion from international donors for state budget funding. More than half of Ukraine’s 2024 budget will be financed from abroad.
